This connection, which had been halted due to the pandemic, returned on October 27 from the T2-D building of the International Terminal (T2).
The route, which covers more than 11,300 kilometers from Santiago to Sydney, takes less than 15 hours and is non-stop. Flights are operated four times a week: from Santiago Airport to Sydney every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday; and from Sydney to Santiago departures are every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
The celebration was attended by passengers, crew and airport officials, who enjoyed a traditional arch at the gate, a ribbon cutting ceremony and music by Australian artists. In addition, LATAM Airlines provided snacks for attendees.
Manuel Valencia, Deputy Manager of Communications and Corporate Affairs of Nuevo Pudahuel, stressed the importance of the reactivation of this route: “This flight was available at Santiago Airport before the pandemic and now it’s back with four weekly frequencies. This consolidates the country’s main airport as a hub for connections between Latin America and Oceania.”
With this reactivation, Nuevo Pudahuel consolidates Santiago Airport’s status as an international hub, offering more travel options to passengers and strengthening the connectivity of the country’s main air terminal with the world.
