SANTIAGO AIRPORT INAUGURATES MULTI-RELIGIOUS PRAYER ROOM IN THE INTERNATIONAL TERMINAL (T2)
04/04/2025 The new prayer room is a milestone in inclusion and respect for religious diversity. This space, unique in Chile, consolidates the airport as a reference in the promotion of coexistence and dialogue between different religious communities. In the presence of the Minister of Public Works, Jessica López, the Secretary General of the Presidency, Nicolás Facuse, the General Director of Concessions, Juan Manuel Sánchez, and the General Manager of Nuevo Pudahuel, Nicolas Claude, as well as representatives of various religious communities and beliefs, the new Pluri-religious Prayer Room at Santiago Airport was inaugurated.
This space, the first of its kind in the country, is located on the second floor of the International Terminal (T2). In its 57 m2 of space, it has been designed without any specific reference to a particular religion, so that it can be used by believers or followers of any creed, spirituality or religious community. It has only symbols that allow the faithful to direct their prayers. Thus, when it was opened, elements such as the quiblah, which indicates the direction of Mecca for Muslim believers, and a sign indicating the direction of Jerusalem, a holy place for Jews, were incorporated into its interior.
The Minister of Public Works, Jessica López, stressed that in the field of public infrastructure, works such as the oratory "have a profound value. Spaces like this, which are the result of dialogue with the communities, allow us to have a more representative infrastructure that meets the needs of the citizens. The inauguration of this room may seem simple, but its symbolism and importance are enormous," he said.
For his part, the Secretary General of the Presidency, Nicolas Facuse, underlined the collaborative nature of the initiative: "This project was the result of a process of dialogue and shared learning involving various institutions. For our Ministry, through the National Office for Religious Affairs, it has been a source of pride to contribute to the realisation of this space, which will offer millions of passengers the opportunity to stop, reflect and connect with their spirituality, regardless of their beliefs".
Finally, Nicolas Claude, General Manager of Nuevo Pudahuel, reflected on the milestone that this opening represents: "With the inauguration of this new space, Santiago Airport offers a multi-religious place where passengers can come to pray, meditate or enjoy a moment of peace. This is one of the first spaces of its kind in Chile designed to welcome people of different faiths in the International Terminal of the airport, promoting religious diversity and respect for all travellers," he concluded.
